The sculptor Alexandr Markin was born on May 12, 1993, in Rostov-on-Don. He spent his childhood in a rural and pristine landscape, where the desire to become a sculptor emerged at an early age.
From 2010 to 2015, he studied at the prestigious Grekov Institute of Arts in his hometown, where he graduated with honors and received a scholarship.
His journey then took him to the Surikov Art Academy in Moscow, one of the world’s leading institutions for visual arts education.
Alexandr Markin actively participated in numerous exhibitions and created sketches for monumental projects. In 2016, he won the competition to create the Zarskaya Fountain, which will soon be installed at a height of 25 meters on Lubjanka Square in the center of Moscow.
Some of the artist’s works are already housed in museums and private collections.
In 2017, the sculptor created a memorial for the world-renowned clown Oleg Popov, who found his final resting place in Egloffstein near Nuremberg.
Alexandr Markin has been living in Germany for a year. Currently, he is working on a series of abstract sculptures based on modified, hypertrophied forms of various animals. Their intentional deformation emphasizes the instability of the artificially disturbed and vulnerable modern society, concealed by large unnatural umbrellas of artificially created norms.
Alexandr Markin also dedicates himself to painting and enjoys experimenting with shapes and colors.
He believes that art is particularly important in difficult times and creates a dialogue among people.
